Basically after a battle with the Red Skull and Jack of Hearts exposing her to radiation it fucked her enough that she was starting to return to being Jen Walters and was now similar to Bruce.
The effects of this caused her to change into She-hulk when ever she was afraid. Now this was only for this story, they fix it at the end, but it's also...the best version of this story we have.
and I'm going to talk about those stories later and why THEY DON'T work, but for now lets talk about what works with this story.
For one it does not ignore her history it totality. Her friends are HELPING her out even Hawkeye come backs to make sure she's okay.
When Bruce shows up it's also not a cheap moment, he is there for her like she was him at times, and has her back during this. He cares and the story does note something when she's fixed.
The story knows that Jen does it have it better then Bruce, she always had, and doesn't pretend it's tragic but it make the story sing. Again when I talk about other stories this is only going to make THEM MORE INFURIATING.
